  6. On January 23, 2018, Melany, Imani and I met at FIT and we had a working lunch. We discussed our goals for work and school as we continue with our relationship. We also discussed what future activities we would like to attend and how our interests overlap to be able to steer our future experiences in the best direction possible. Due to the different stages in their high school careers, they had different goals but they are also being able to help one another. Melany and Imani also went to a school basketball game.

  8. On Friday 2/8/18 Cartomu Kabba and Liz Torres will have our first night out at FIT to see the Fashion & Physique exhibition! We were going to meet last week but I thought with single digits weather to postpone to this Friday. If time permits I will take her to Parson School of FashionUniversity Center as a mini tour. Cartomu has a very busy schedule and Friday is her only night off so I look forward to create great experiences together!

I loved the food. Overall, it was a great day.

    1. It was a beautiful movie to watch for all that it offers for positive influence and cinematography! So great to be able to introduce Cartomu and her friend to one of my favorite places like the High Line. The weather was incredibly warm and it made it even more enchanting.

  11. On February 23, Liz and I went to FIT for the Fashion and Physique symposium. Their were many guest speakers and they covered all of the topics that needed diversity in the fashion community. Hopefully those messages will be relayed to our own high school students who need to hear it now more than ever. I also met her friend/ colleague Shireen who was really awesome. She made me see certain things in a new light. Hopefully we'll see more of each other. This truly was a great experience.

    1. I was very impressed by the level of integrity and readiness to move the conversation forward for what a woman and man should feel like versus what they look like when it come to their body. There were famous plus size fit models that shared their experience and were so inspiring! Also Tim Gunn opened the discussion and he was so gracious to speak with us and take a picture with Cartomu! I took the emails of one of the fit models and as Cartomu suggests this conversation should start early in our education. May be we can get a visit! Great memories.

  14. On February 21st Melany, Imani and I met in China town prior to attending a sustainable fashion conference. We had lunch and then made our way to Baruch College for the conference. We listened to a panelist discussion involving companies from brands such as Eileen Fischer as they discussed the changes they are making in the industry to benefit our earth and community. It was enlightening for me to see them absorb the information and start taking notes of their own accord. With entering the conference, the only thing I asked of them was to listen and to see them take an interest of their own was amazing. I think what really impacted them was when one of the panelists mentioned that it takes 700 gallons of water to produce one t-shirt. They also observed the panel and asked questions regarding their background as well as questioning the diversity of the panelist. One of the questions asked was " Why don't we close all stores and force people to clean the world?" I enjoyed having them be exposed to this and we are planning our next trips around visiting some of the least known museums in NY and watching documentary films involving fashion and our community.
